The
idea to open Lili came from finding some beautiful vintage
dresses and coats and realizing just how unique and well made they
were. It seems that quality vintage pieces are timeless and
appeal to women of all ages
I decided to open a
boutique where vintage items could be appreciated and given a second life. I
only carry items that I really love and all of the
items are cleaned and repaired before being displayed in the shop.
Since the items are mostly one of a
kind, the selection varies weekly. That makes it more
interesting.
Lili opened its doors in May of 2005, just three months before
hurricane Katrina. The store and street were lucky and sustained minimal
damage.
Lili
re-opened in mid October, and was among the first stores in the city to
re-open. I was reluctant to open thinking who would want to buy a
cocktail dress in the midst of all the destruction and sadness. Well
guess what, New Orleanians still wanted to get dressed up, maybe now
more than ever. Locals were still getting married and going
to the opened restaurants in droves, and they looked better than
ever. I remember the night I re-opened, selling a vintage purse to a
CNN reporter and waving to the National Guard trucks that
were driving down Magazine.
The National Guard trucks are long gone but Magazine Street is back, exploding with excitement and new stores.
Lili Vintage Boutique is proud to be located in the heart of Magazine Street in historic New Orleans, Louisiana.
